In May 2010 QVMX member Michael Brown (Brownie) and his son Cameron 17 intend to Trek the Kokoda Trail in PNG with a fund raising group from Camp Quality South Queensland.
And there are still sets of hiking boots to fill for the trek if you want to come along to Kokoda. Great motocross fitness training!!!!
Cameron spent most of 2008 battling a relapse of childhood leukaemia. In August 2008 Cameron received a Bone Marrow Transplant and is now well on his way to recovery. We each need to raise donations of $2,500 for Camp Quality on top of the costs of the trek. My initial fund raising program is also my fitness/conditioning program. I intend to go up the Cooroora at Pomona (King of the Mountain), 100 times prior to May 2010. Today August 23 was #12 and #13.
What does Camp Quality do? They break up the long days, weeks and months with a smile. They bring sick kids, brothers and sisters and families together with other families to have a great time where it does not matter if you have hair or not. For his 17th birthday last year, Cameron was confined in isolation to a hospital room. Only 4 close family or friends were permitted in. One phone call had a group of Camp Quality folk on a nearby decorated walkway with an outside party. A walky talky let Cameron share with his friends outside on the walkway. All in a days work for Camp Quality.
There are several ways that anyone can help.
#1. Sign up and come along to Kokoda! #2. Offer a donation or financial support! #3. Organise a fund raising event. #4. Get sponsorship to come along on a training walk with me or Cameron, climbing Mt Cooroora at Pomona. #5. That's a great idea. I didn't think of that!
If you would like to help out or come along for a stroll, email me at camerontokokoda@gmail.com

QVMX has started the ball rolling with pledging $10 per climb of Mt Cooroora that Michael does, so if he reaches his goal of 100 times, $1000.00 goes towards helping Cameron and Michael on their way to Kokoda. Also another anonymous donor has offered to personally give him $2 per climb.
If you can help our fellow QVMX’ers and Camp Quality in any way, big or small, it would be kindly appreciated.
QVMX Committee.
